MINERALIZATION OF THE BUSANG PROSPECT, EAST .

Abstract. Busang prospect occurs in the Kalimantan Volcanic belt of East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan. The prospect occupied the undulated morphology known as Bukit Busang. It is approximately 150 km southwest of the Kelian mine. Geologically, the Busang prospect is hosted within the volcanic rocks (tuff, breccia, dacite and adesite).

Chalcopyrite, CuFeS2, is the most important copperbearing mineral in the world and unlike many other ores it is known to be recalcitrant to hydrometallurgical processing. The main hindrance to the commercial applica tion of biohydrometallurgical processing of chalcopyrite is its slow rate of dissolution.

where chalcopyrite is found in the world

Chalcopyrite mineral information and data Bornite is an important copper ore mineral and occurs widely in porphyry copper deposits along with the more common chalcopyrite. Chalcopyrite and bornite are both typically replaced by chalcocite and covellite in the supergene enrichment zone of copper deposits.

Sphalerite

Sphalerite

Sphalerite is a sulfide mineral with the chemical formula (Zn,Fe)S. It is the most important ore of zinc. Sphalerite is found in a variety of deposit types, but it is primarily in sedimentary exhalative, MississippiValley type, and volcanogenic massive sulfide deposits. It is found in association with galena, chalcopyrite, pyrite (and other sulfides), calcite, dolomite, quartz, rhodochrosite ...

Copper

Copper

Copper is found in many minerals which occur in deposits large enough to mine. These include: azurite, malachite, chalcocite, acantite, chalcopyrite and bornite. Most copper comes from chalcopyrite. The world's leading producer of copper is Chile, followed by the and Peru.

LEACHING KINETICS OF COPPER FROM CHALCOPYRITE .

Mineralogical analyses performed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and Xray diffraction of the bulk concentrate revealed that the sample contained mainly chalcopyrite with sphalerite, pyrite and small amounts of bornite. The primary gangue mineral was quartz.

Chalcopyrite

Chalcopyrite

Associated copper minerals include the sulfides bornite (Cu5FeS4), chalcocite (Cu2S), covellite (CuS), digenite (Cu9S5); carbonates such as malachite and azurite, and rarely oxides such as cuprite (Cu2O). Chalcopyrite is rarely found in association with native copper. Chalcopyrite is the most important copper ore.

CHALCOCITE (Copper Sulfide)

CHALCOCITE (Copper Sulfide)

Chalcocite has been known to form pseudomorphs of the minerals bornite, covellite, chalcopyrite, pyrite, enargite, millerite, galena and sphalerite. Pseudo means false and morph means shape or form, thus pseudomorph means false shape since the mineral is chalcocite but the shape is that of a covellite crystal, for example.
